Have you ever been to a concert and watched a gifted performer entertain a hall full of people? Somehow, the artist felt so comfortable with themselves and their performing material that you strangely felt as if you were alone with that person while they played. Have you ever heard someone sing with such ease and passion that tears welled up in your eyes as you could almost live the story being brought through their song? Actors who almost become the character of the one they portray or even a skilled cab driver in heavy traffic as he gets the best track to your destination has a calling. In the years that I have been building instruments, I have also loved to play music. I have never been taught to read music or play in formal settings, but I do enjoy “jamming” with friends and improvising with melodies. I have also been a worship leader for my church. It was Ken Hoover that mentored me in worship leading. Ken didn’t have to teach me like an instructor, but just by watching him pour out his heart resonated with me in very deep ways.
