What does it mean to have faith? Jesus would often times condescend toward His disciples with the phrase, “O you guys, your faith is so little”. He would say this sometimes after there was an event that demonstrated that the disciples lacked the perspective that Jesus had into the situation. …read more »
What is Beauty?
I have been pondering about this question, what is beauty. There are many opinions out there, probably more than many. What would define this complex, yet very personal word, beauty?
One definition that has been going around for quite some time is: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This would allude to the paradigm that each person defines what is beautiful within themselves. If you were to run this out all the way it would be like saying that freedom is being able to do whatever the heck you want no matter what anyone else has to say about it. I haven’t written anything for a while and thought it would be good to get everyone caught up on what’s going on here at Moriah. As things have gone here, life as a startup company in hard times like these has been quite an adventure. I have always had a funny fascination with the telecaster, and it seemed at the time (and still does) that there are very few designs out that truly honor the grandfather of electric guitars. …read more »
I was thinking it would be fun to write about a time long ago, 30 years in fact, about my experience at the Guitar Research and Design center. This would be a fitting prologue to the notes we have transcribed and made available to you. I have been in touch with Charles Fox recently and he has given a hearty approval to sharing these with you.
It was in the autumn of 1978, that I was pondering the best way to proceed with learning how to be more rounded in my instrument building education. The year before, I had taken an independent study at my college in instrument building, and had built a couple mandolins. They turned out pretty well, but I knew that I needed some good instruction to cement together all of my own study experience. After discussing this with my counselors and college administration, I was given permission to enroll in a luthier school.
